Nominated for Silver Garland, playing an instrument, NHS member, a digital media academy award recipient, and has received her soccer referee certification, demonstrates Stephanie’s ability to overcome her medical adversity. She doesn’t have to play soccer competitively anymore but can still be actively involved and finds many creative ways to make her life fulfilling.
Matt represents the principles of the AAO Foundation by his academic and athletic accomplishments. His ambition to attend a private small college with difficult admission requirements is commendable. Matt is planning to continue his soccer career in college. He is Bobby Cranston’s son, who is a former coach from HCHS and worked with Coach Robin Wagman for many years coaching the track and field team.
Taylor is a very deserving student-athlete and has shown extreme financial need. Earning a 3.1 GPA and participating in varsity sports, extra-curricular school activities, shows his ability to be a part of a team and earn success in competition at the high school level. His attitude and ability to play football in spite of injuries and health concerns shows his love for the sport. His career choice indicates his understanding of how sports increase self-confidence and self-esteem.
It is evident that Casey is balancing community service and academics, all the while dealing with her lupus disease. Her desire to help others with the same disease is demonstrated by organizing 5K runs and other health awareness events. She wants to make a difference and shows immense leadership and ambition while preforming these services.
Matt is an outstanding student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA, with definite career goals in the field of law. He has a remarkable 78-8 high school wrestling record. He lost his father, coach and mentor to cancer his senior year in high school. He pushed through his grief and managed his schoolwork, wrestling competition and work schedules to finish his senior year with very high academic distinction.
Lindsay was challenged by her physical hardship in the classroom and on the playing field and still came out on top. She has an extremely high GPA and her excellent study habits will be valuable in her college curriculum. She may have minor difficulty in college because of her physical limitations. Her special goals and determination will carrier to new heights. She will represent her alma mater in college very well.
Shaq is a champion three-sport student-athlete with a 3.8 GPA, while being employed at Publix. He won a district high-jump championship and was interregnal part of the State Championship Basketball Team. He has overcome extreme home-life adversity. While balancing his classroom work, athletic competitions and work schedules, this student-athlete is striving hard to accomplish his lifetime goals.

Ron is a scholarship recipient that would most benefit from this financial award. His high GPA shows his determination to break the home-life cycle. He will soon be making a decision upon a specific major while on his way to earning a Bachelor’s degree. Ron has excellent guidance for the selection process on his way to college. Ron will be a long way from home while in college and will draw upon his student-athlete experience to succeed.
Alexandra has been able to discover a keen balance between the love of her sport and her own athletic participation while dealing with her medical issue. She can still be involved in all sports, at a lower impact level. Her support system within the medical field is a significant accomplishment and shows her ability to comply with medical restrictions that are monitored continuously.
